Kit took very long time to be delievered as they were waiting for the wooden mold to be done,I did not order the wooden mold with my kit so not sure why it took so long. Also once it arrived the slit in the wooden bottom was to narrow or the cane was was to wide. In either case it made it a much harder project. There were no instructions with my kit and I paid another $10.00 for them to mail me the insdtructions. Really dont understand why they would sell me a kit with no instructions. I don't think I would buy from them again

review of 8" pre-made kit
I have had a few problems with this kit, all the parts were there and they looked ok. After shaping and sanding the staves and attaching them to the bottom, I found that it was impossible to do an even weaving, some of the staves buckled and I could not get them flat it was also impossible to pack the weaver. After 3 rows of ugly weaving I pulled it all apart and resanded and shaped the staves again, but I had to pull it all apart after a few rows of unsatisfying work. This time I started with all new material, I had ordered and received a hank of 7mm flat oval reed, and I cut new weavers from that. This time it worked to my satisfaction and I was able to finish the basket. Today I was ready to attach the handle and here I had my latest problem, one of the flat ivory washers has the wrong bore, the escutcheon pin will not fit through the hole and I don't know what to do. I tried to call your costumer service line put never got through. Please let me know what I should do to get this overly long project finished. Inger Thygesen

Beginner Basket
Was pleased with how simple this kit was to use and understand. With so many pieces there will be some modifications that need to be made but I was very pleased with the kit and the process. Built my first basket with no issues and throughly enjoyed the experience. Highly recommend anyone give this a try. You're not going to find a better kit, and resource in DELS

Awesome 30-day Challenge!
I loved this project! The instructions are very concise and good - read ~~every word~~, and refer back for each step. It would be nice to have them printed larger :) Dels was very helpful on the phone when I had a question. The picture shows the staves pre-cut, but the kit came with raw stave material . It is extra work to cut to size, but better for learning the process. The kit also included fine fine weaver, though superfine is a bit better and will break less frequently. All-told it took me about 40 hours. None of it was difficult, but it did take patience and attention to detail. Every time I got in a hurry, I made a mistake. I had on hand some useful tools: screwdriver, ruler, snips, hammer, clothespins. I purchased: • A 3" planer for tapering • Calipers to help keep my tapering consistent • 150, 220, and 400 sand paper • A snap off knife for splicing • A blunt awl for packing the weaver (don't use a regular awl!) • A strap clamp (if the rubber band is at all loose, this is helps with the tightening/packing step.) • Good quality tweezers to pluck off weaver "hairs" and help align splices • A Dremel drill • Super glue (gel variety would have been better) • Polyurethane and brushes I deviated from the instruction just a bit: I stopped after every circumference to clamp, tighten, and pack the weaver; I changed the rim application steps so I would not have any nails showing on the inside of the basket; and I applied one coat of polyurethane to the rims before lashing. I had trouble getting the basket off the base - which is a sign of good tight weaving. Dels recommended I try freezing it. I ended up using a small block of wood and hammer to very gently tap the ends of the staves around and around to coax it off. I also had trouble with mushrooming the escutcheon pins for the handle without bending the pins. I wonder if soldering might be better. Dels- if you could please provide a 3rd pin and extra washer, that would be nice! I'd recommend using liquid polyurethane for the base, handle, and raw rim, but spray polyurethane for the finished basket. This was a great project - highly recommend!

The cane used to make the staves is of substandard quality. Lots of nicks, scratches etc...... The rest of the kit is fine.

This was an absolutely fabulous purchase. The mild is of excellent quality and we have used it to make three baskets so far. All of the materials were very satisfactory and directions were excellent. The company has been very supportive. We are won over!

Bottom round
Slits in bottom rounds too thin. Very difficult to insert staves even when stave is tapered.
